jill greenberg is one of my favorite contemporary photographers. she photographs people for advertisements and magazine covers and such, but her best work is evocative animal photography. i've never seen anyone extract so much tangible emotion from various animals as well as jill greenberg. her website is full of illuminating photography.

got my medical marijuana license today. i can legally buy cannabis anywhere in the state of california. i picked up a magazine in one of the two dispensaries i visited today and it is filled with advertisements and coupons for dispensaries. they are sprinkled all over the los angeles area as though it were a big, hash-oil infused cupcake.

via webehigh.com:

Los Angeles Marijuana Prices: $20 for 1.0-1.3g
$45-85 for an eigth (depending on quality of course) $90-140 for a quarter (again depending on quality)

Price vary tremendously since the quality range of the weed is immense. You can pay up to $70 for an 1/8 of an oz of really amazing weed that can smell so strong, that an eighth will stink up an entire apartment. Lower range weed goes for around 35-45 dollars an eighth.

Brands: Everything, this is Cali weed. To name a few of the one's I've seen: OG Kush, Purple Kush, Orange Kush, Master Kush, Ogre Kush, White Widow, Sour Diesel, Juicyfruit, Captain Kush, Silver Lining, Legends of Indica, Northern Lights, Trainwreck, etc etc.

Almost any type of bud that can be imagined. Marijuana dispensaries are located in California if you have a medical marijuana license, so this brings virtually any type of weed found in dispensaries to LA (which is basically every type you can imagine).

it is actually overwhelming. there are so many dispensaries selling so many kinds of pot that it's literally on a par with going to any grocery store here and picking out the best piece of produce you can find. it is ubiquitious to the point of superfluity, and virtually all of it is top quality. any piece of fruit you pick from any grocery store around here is likely home grown, local, and completely delicious. it's some of the best produce in the world, and the bud is the same. the edibles taste as good as anything you'll get in a designer bakery shop in the heart of the city--each item has a background flavor tinted with the flowery essence of cooked marijuana--from mint cookies to mini cheesecakes. california is seriously serious about their cannabis in the broadest sense of the word.

when i had my appointment with the doctor today, there were about half a dozen people in the waiting room. the two people whose names i got were mary and joseph (!), and joseph used to live in madison. we were talking about the scene there. the doctor and i shot the shit more than we talked about my illness, and i wound up signing a release form for my medical documents but they never actually faxed them. $160 for a card and a doctor's prescription to consume as much cannabis as i can afford. in indiana, i was jailed for something that a california doctor deems beneficial to my health. the world is a very, very strange and incongruous place.
