"let us go then, you and i,
when the evening is spread out against the sky
like a patient etherised upon a table;
let us go, through certain half-deserted streets,
the muttering retreats
of restless nights in one-night cheap hotels
and sawdust restaurants with oyster-shells:
streets that follow like a tedious argument
of insidious intent
to lead you to an overwhelming question...
oh, do not ask, 'what is it?'
let us go and make our visit."

saw sarah chang tonight. that link is a lot of text, but seriously just pick like any four sentences and it'll give you a good idea of this girl's status in the world. she's like the best violinist in the universe right now. she's like hansel: so hot right now. it was pretty great. i talked to her while she was signing my ticket after the performance and i asked if she enjoyed her night. she replied very enthusiastically, "yeah, i had fun." she's twenty-seven and by the age of four she'd already centered her entire life on the violin. no doubt this is what she'll do the rest of her life.
i also asked if she ever performs mendelssohn's concerto op. 64, and she said she's coming back to the disney theater in february to play it. i was like, that's fucking cool. it's one of my favorite concertos in classical music, violin or otherwise.
i don't know if this will blow your mind, but it blows mine to smitherines. your socks will physically be blown off around 9:20 into the first movement. it almost hurts, it's so good. not literally. but very, very figuratively. keep in mind she's about eighteen years old being backed by one of the best philharmonic orchestras in the world in front of all these people in that big ol' dress. i like to pretend the violin and bow aren't there when i watch it and all the sound is coming out of her every movement.
